Blending & Mixing Tanks For Chemicals, Foodstuffs, Water Treatment

Written by enduramaxx.marketing | May 10, 2021 11:00:00 PM

Mixer tanks are available for mixing, blending, agitation for many applications including food and brewery for drinks and foodstuffs, chemical mixing, and water treatment for agitation to avoid settlement in sludge tanks water treatment including polymer makeup and dosing. Mixer, blending, and process mixer tanks come in different sizes and shapes, including conical full drain and flat base tanks.

Mixer storage vessels play a crucial role in material supply and product holding. In many instances, the temperature, pressure and equalisation of the vessel’s substances are vital for material durability, hygiene, safety and quality. Agitators are often applied to assist these processes. Bulk storage tanks are adopted by various industries, including chemical, petrochemical refining to pharmaceutical products.

Industrial mixer tanks are categorised into several types based on the application, what is being stored, and the application they are being used for mixing.

The Key Types of Blending & Mixing Tanks

We go over these in more details here.

Reagent Mixers / Coagulation Chambers

Reagent Mixers Coagulation Chambers are part of the water treatments primary coagulation stages. To increase the level of the flocculation, the reagent must disperse almost instantly through the liquid. The time taken may take from a few seconds to several minutes, to mix effectively.  In water treatment, warm water can sometimes be enough. Generally, a high-speed flash mixer is required. These reagent mixers are often termed as coagulation chambers.

Coagulation / Flocculation Treatment Mixer Tanks

These Coagulation Treatment Mixers are designed to match specific application requirements and feature heavy-duty Mixers.  Coagulation Treatment Mixers tank mixing systems are designed for several applications, including:

  • Wastewater flocculation before Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)
  • Sludge flocculation before dewatering
  • Polymer solution preparation
  • Wastewater pH control

For DAF systems with more complicated chemistries, we provide flash mix and Coagulation tank systems to introduce coagulating and flocculating chemicals into a waste stream.

Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Mixer Tanks

Enduramaxx Pharmaceutical and Cosmetics Mixers create innovative and robust solutions for the production of drugs and healthcare products. Leading industry brands continue to choose the Enduramaxx mixer for its consistent, hygienic, robust and precision mixing as part of an integrated fluid processing system.  Fluid processing solutions are specifically designed to provide scalability from 100-litre laboratory research and development testing to 10,000-litre production volumes.

Polymer Make-Up & Dosing

These Polymer Makeup & Dosing Systems are fitted with a geared mixer designed to produce a slow and even mix into solutions and processes where a low shear ratio is required such as flocculant and polymers.  This low shear flat-bladed impeller ensures that a slow and even mix is achievable without compromising the flocculant’s effective surface area.  Our polymer mixer range has been designed for use during the flocculant make upstage, and during the process stage, gains in fluctuant contact time and efficiency can be achieved.

Sludge Conditioning Tank

A sludge conditioning tank is used for sludge storage and conditioning to facilitate water loss during mechanical drying, increase efficiencies, and make it more cost-effective.  Chemicals are used to reduces the water content of sludge and agitated with a mixer.  Sludge conditioning tanks are fitted with the following fittings.

  • Flanged inlet
  • Flanged dewatering outlets
  • Sludge drain in the cone
  • Optional mixers and side access hatch

Water Treatment Mixer Vessels

Enduramaxx Water Treatment Mixer Vessels perform a key role in high volume applications inherent in the pre-treatment of drinking water and treatment of wastewater/effluent ready for discharge back into the environment.

Water treatment industries choose a range of techniques to process drinking water, including Water Treatment Mixers.  Several treatments may be applied to remove contaminants in a series of dosing and cleansing methods. Usually, flocculation, filtration, disinfection and sedimentation are required to treat raw water before transportation to consumers. Enduramaxx mixers and agitators offer important roles in this processing, whether dosing or solid suspension techniques are needed. Whether upthrust or down thrust applications are needed a variety of reliable, durable machines quickly assist the water industry with efficient operating drives with optimum performance impeller types.

Mixer Tank Baffles – Why Are They Needed?

Mixer baffles in a tank reduce the swirling in the bulk fluid and promote circulation between the top and bottom of the tank, ensuring the full liquid volumes pass through the impeller’s high turbulence area.  This, in turn, stabilises and minimize variation in the agitator power draw; however, one common issue that arises in mixing is an undesirable flow pattern.

What are baffles in a mixer tank?

Baffles are flat plates attached to the sides of a mixing tank spanning the tank’s height from top to bottom and sometimes the base of the tank if it's a cone tank.  Baffles are required for larger process tanks, in smaller tanks, this can same offsetting a mixer to provide the desired flow pattern.  Baffles still disrupt the mixing vortex as offsetting has diminishing effects as the tank grows in diameter. How do baffles in a mixer tank work?

Baffles work by disrupting the flow pattern and providing top to bottom flow within the tank. When mixing solid suspensions in a large cylindrical tank, you will normally end up with a swirling flow pattern within the tank without baffles.  This is undesirable as solid particles will tend to collect at the bottom of the tank rather than being thoroughly mixed into the solution.  Ensuring a top to bottom flow is achieved within the tank, and swirling flow can be achieved by having baffles.
