It’s a topic that just doesn’t seem to go away, and that’s water supplies in farming. As reported by Farming Life, just before Christmas, Northern Ireland farmers feared water supply problems as Northern Ireland Water planned industrial action by hundreds of workers over a pension dispute.
Northern Ireland Water, a state-owned company, issued a statement declaring that it could not avoid implementing pension reforms that have already been introduced elsewhere in the public sector.
Union bosses have said that water supply and treatment services are set to be disrupted throughout the Christmas period with union members adopting a work-to-rule policy that will see a withdrawal of overtime and on-call repair services.
Water supplies, along with proposed changes to abstraction and water rates have posed serious concerns to UK farmers throughout 2014 and farmers can begin to control their own supplies more through rainwater harvesting, being the channelling of roof run-off into rugged rainwater tanks. Enduramaxx rainwater tanks are horizontal and vertical storage tanks manufactured from a very robust single piece of UV-stabilised polyethylene.
Rainwater tanks are available in an array of sizes, right up to 30,000 litres and Enduramaxx also supplies potable water tanks carrying WRAS certification, meaning they are suitable for storing water fit for human consumption.
