Water Storage Tanks For Dairies

Any dairy farmer knows that water is key to milk production. Milk is around 87% water, so it’s not surprising that for just one gallon of milk, a cow will need to drink 4.5 gallons of water. Given that the average cow will produce eight gallons of milk per day, each cow needs between thirty and fifty gallons of water every single day.

Cows need water throughout the day. They’re thirstiest just after they’ve been milked, and their complicated digestive system is reliant on adequate water to keep them healthy. Water troughs need to be located within easy reach of both the milking shed and the feed troughs.

Farmers need to be sure that each cow, regardless of size, has ready access to water. Ideally, there should be a minimum of one water trough per twenty cows. Each trough needs to hold at least five gallons of liquid, and have a refill rate of at least 2.5 gallons per minute to ensure that the cows have fresh, clean water.

Clean And Safe

Just as with humans, cows need water that is clean and free of bacteria and contaminants. It’s common for water for livestock to be stored in tanks. These tanks need to tested and certified as suitable for potable water. All Enduratank’s potable water tanks are accredited by the WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme), and meet Regulation 31, meaning that they’re safe for cows and other livestock. Enduratank’s 51 potable water tanks range in size from 150 litres to 90,000 litres. Whatever your needs, Enduratank has the right one for you.
